About
Montreal Women in Music is an organization whose mission is to advance awareness, equality, diversity, heritage, opportunities and cultural aspects of women in the musical arts.
For over 5 years, Montreal Women in Music has been independently organizing conferences, workshops, training and networking opportunities to unite and educate women in our industry. In a non-judgmental space open to all, we offer them the means to realize their ambitions. Our activities are in tune with their reality, enabling them to express themselves and contribute to making things happen faster and healthier.
The organization was born on March 8, 2017, following a conversation between Sara Dendane and Kyria Kilakos. Perplexed by the lack of female representation in all areas of music in Montreal, they decided to get their hands dirty. They contacted Women in Music Canada (WIMC). Women in Music Canada (WIMC)is a registered non-profit organization and one of Canada’s largest music industry associations. The organization is dedicated to promoting gender equality in the music industry through the support and advancement of professional and creative women at all stages of their careers. After several meetings, Sara Dendane and Kyria Kilakos decided to open a franchise of the organization in Montreal, which gradually became a reference in Quebec.
MTL Women in Music is made up of persons at all stages of their careers – from students to industry veterans – and in all fields of expertise. We’re record label executives, artist managers, songwriters, musicians, lawyers, recording engineers, agents, press relations, studio owners, music publishers, digital marketers and more. We represent all genres of music and all sectors of the industry.
